 Sweeper Parts Kent - Kent, Washington serves a population of approximately 120,000. The city of Kent is the third biggest city in King County and is a suburb of Seattle. The population has recently grown, but due mainly to annexation, not to an arrival of new inhabitants. Neighboring towns comprise Auburn, Federal Way, unincorporated King County and part of Covington to the south, Sea Tac, Federal way and Des Moines to the west, Renton and Tukwila towards the north, and Covington to the east. Mt. Rainier could be seen towards the southeast.
Kent City is composed of three parts: the Valley, West Hill and East Hill. The downtown core lies within the Valley. The city of Kent has a total area of 73.2 km2, wherein 72.6 km2 is land and 0.6 km2 is water. Kent has the second largest warehouse district in the country. The Green River runs north through Kent on its way to Puget Sound. The East Hill area has a big lake referred to as Lake Meridian.
The Kent region was originally known as Titusville when it was originally inhabited by European-Americans during the early 1860s. A 'Titusville Station' sign can still be seen on Gowe St. The production of hops was a primary source of earnings in the 1880s. Within Europe, hops crops was destroyed by an aphid infestation, boosting the price of hops from the Puget Sound region where hops were shipped by river or rail transportation from Titusville. A local invasion of aphids finally ended the production of hops in the valley. Titusville was given a new name, after the County of Kent within England. Kent was incorporated as a city in the year 1890 with a population of 793.
Kent is home to the head offices of businesses like for instance Oberto Sausage Company, Seattle bicycle Supply and REI. There is a Boeing plant located within the city. The once-fertile valley is presently covered with various warehouses due partially to Kent's role as a center for transportation routes. The expansive warehouse district is utilized for regional distribution by companies like for example General Electric Appliances and Whirlpool Corporation.
Kent has recently gone through a revitalization drive with the development of the Kent Station and the ancillary shopping area.
